The Nottingham-based company behind the popular fantasy gaming equipment and Lord of the Rings figurines said its 2, 600 ordinary workers would split a £10.6m special bonus on top of a £2.6m profit share.
Senior managers will share an extra £1.1m bonus pot, up from £300, 000 the year before, after sales rose by just over a third to £361m and pretax profits soared almost 70% to £151m.

Kevin Rountree, the chief executive of Games Workshop, said the special bonuses were a reward for their “exceptional performance in helping to increase our profitability significantly”.
Rountree said the latest edition of the group’s Warhammer 40, 000 game, which features characters such as the skeleton-like Necron Warriors and the multi-limbed Canoptek Plasmacyte, had been the group’s “most successful launch to date”. Games Workshop, which has two factories in Nottingham, said it had brought in permanent night shifts and some additional weekend shifts and also rented a second warehouse nearby as it tried to sate demand. The group is also installing extra injection-moulding kit to speed up production of its figurines, which can cost anywhere between £10 and £100-plus, and has also bought two pieces of land beside its main site for further expansion.
Rountree admitted that customers in the UK and Europe had experienced an increase in delivery delays because of “capacity constraints” at its warehouses, partly as a result of social distancing measures to protect workers from the spread of Covid-19.

Deliveries from the UK to the EU also faced “significant disruption” in the early part of this year as a result of Brexit. “The world seems to be getting smaller but crossing borders is much harder, ” Rountree said.
However, Charles Hall, an analyst at Peel Hunt said the group’s operating profit margin had increased from 33% to nearly 43% as the popularity of its figurines, made from either plastic or resin, had increased. “They are benefiting from 40 years of creativity and intellectual property and investing in people and the miniatures, ” he said.
The group said it had permanently closed just eight stores, including two in the UK, over the past year and planned to open 10 more a year in the US as well as Warhammer Cafes in Japan and China.

Games Workshop is in trouble, as licensing saved them once again from a drop in revenue and profits after two years of insane growth!
The Games Workshop Investor page just released a deep financial summary breakdown of revenue, costs, and profits for their fiscal year, which ended May 29th, 2022.

However, this also shouldn’t be a shocker as the COVID boom is slowing, and things are returning to pre-COVID numbers and trends. Well, amid a general feeling of contempt by their customer base for years of broken promises, price increases, and paywalls.
The revenue in 2019-20 went up an insane amount, as with most gaming companies! In 2020-21 the revenue increased by 40 million pounds (about 54 million USD), which is quite impressive- followed by an increase of nearly 84 million pounds (about 116 million USD), which is just wild.
The profit for the year also followed suit, hitting an impressive 60 million increase, so they did increase costs some, but man, that is some serious profit. The earnings per share also went up by about 85%. So, all in all, quite the two-year run for GW.

After a record performance last year, Black Library, our novel publishing division, struggled in the face of global supply disruption with many key new releases arriving later than planned. Underlying sales continue to grow, especially in the digital space, with sales of electronic and audio books exceeding those of physical for the first time ever.
The sales for Black Library are actually down by £.7 million, which is a big deal when the previous year’s revenue was only £2.3 million.

It is no shocker that they couldn’t keep up the insane growth from the previous years, but the slowdown seems to be official (and quite possibly permanent) now.
Luxury limited offerings from Black Library seem not to be consumed as much now; no official update on Warhammer plus seems pretty suspicious.
